Monthly FitnessYou know you love being in shape. And you also love helping other people. So on the 1st, why not volunteer to get elderly people outside walking? Or set up a little league for the at-risk kids in the neighborhood? Combining your passions is always a good idea, and now's the perfect time to do it. Sure, it's a good idea to plan out your workout schedule for the whole month on the 5th. But be sure to leave a little flexibility in there, so that you can make adjustments as things come up unexpectedly without sacrificing your workouts. How's your weight on the 10th? Is there a bad habit that's been hard for you to bid adieu to? You never met a problem you didn't want to use your intellect to solve. But on the 1st, you need to stop thinking and get moving. Run. Swim. Jog. Walk. Play handball. Play softball. Learn to waltz. Learn to dive. Learn to climb. Karate chop. Cannonball. Just do something that involves working out your body! You can save the brainwork for later. By the 4th, 5th and 6th, this go-get-em attitude has spilled over into your approach to romance. Don't think -- just do! There are as many ways to work out as there are mood variations. You can hop on the rowing machine and row like the dickens. Or you can pop into the beginner's yoga class and breathe deeply. You might feel frenetic on the ellipsis, or coordinated on the dojo mat. But, for you, the 1st is a day to take things a little bit easy. No need to stress and strain and grunt and possibly pull a muscle. Nope, you've got a case of the springtime creaks, and it's important to pace yourself. You're feeling totally back in form by the time you have that super workout on the 4th. You're in a pretty deep kind of place on the 1st. You aren't interested in superficial changes. You want to get to the bottom of why you sometimes skip your workout even though you know it's the best thing you can possibly do for yourself on a daily basis. Do you feel like you don't deserve it? Does it have something to do with the way you were brought up? Can you let go of those outdated and heretofore subconscious blocks that have been impeding your ability to succeed at staying as healthy as you possibly can be? Since you have the good luck of finding yourself in a particularly decision-oriented state of mind on the 1st, you should make a firm decision about when and how and how often you are going to work out. The seasons are changing and you might want to think about incorporating some springtime sports into your routine. You definitely want to introduce springtime veggies into your diet. Seasonal is best -- it's how Mother Nature intended it, after all. The 3rd marks a real speeding up. Everything from your work life to your love life is accelerating its pace. Should you walk or run? Dance or hike? Add protein or leafy greens to your diet? It's true: Staying in shape involves a lot of decision-making. And on the 1st you might be feeling a little overwhelmed by all these complex decisions that need to be made. Call up a healthy friend and ask them to just tell you what to do. Seriously. Then you can do it, without wasting a lot of time hemming and hawing. Problems? Work-related? Romantic? What's the best way to calm frayed nerves and smooth your own ruffled feathers? Drinking lots of black coffee? Storming around the office? Calling up your honey bun and getting mad at them for forgetting to pick up the dry cleaning? Don't forget that a good chunk of your irresistible personal magnetism derives from your solid commitment to your own health. That's right: You stay in shape, and people notice. They say to themselves, 'hmm, there's a hottie who has a real sense of respect for their body.' And they like you even more. So if a friend is burned out on working out, the 1st is a great day to take them along with you to the gym. Your good energy will inspire them to get in shape, too, and you'll be happy to have helped. Everybody's entitled to a little emotional eating, now and again. But on the 1st, you're overdoing it just a little, don't you think? Put down that donut! Toss those buffalo wings! Ditch the French fries! Stuffing your body with unhealthy snacks is definitely not the way out of the doldrums. In fact, science says that putting unhealthy things in your body can actually contribute to those bluesy feelings. So eat a carrot and go for a run. You feel better, right? See how easy it can be? |
